Learn about wildlife management in Japan during special lunchtime presentation at the Salato Wildlife Education Center Nov. 3

Frankfort, Ky. – The public has a unique opportunity to learn about wildlife management in Japan during a special brown bag lunch presentation at the Salato Wildlife Education Center in Frankfort at noon, Nov. 3.
Bring your lunch and listen as featured speaker Dr. Gouhei Ueda discusses wildlife management issues in his home province, and the challenges faced in that country. Ueda serves as wildlife and forest manager for Japan’s Hyogo Prefecture, near Kyoto. Ueda, whose professional interests include hunter recruitment and retention, is studying programs and initiatives for enhancing hunter participation while he is visiting the United States.
This special presentation, which runs from noon until 1 p.m., is free. No registration is required to attend.
The Salato Center has a variety of native animals for the public to see, including a black bear, bobcats, elk, deer, bison, eagles, snakes and fish. The Center has numerous indoor exhibits and miles of hiking trails open to the public. Fishing is available at two lakes. While some programs may require a registration fee, general admission to the Salato Center is free.

The Salato Center, operated by the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, is located at the department’s headquarters on U.S. 60 in Frankfort, 1.5 miles west of U.S. 127. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. The Center is closed Sundays, Mondays and state holidays.
