World Equestrian Games and Frankfort

What are the World Equestrian Games?  The World Equestrian Games, held every four years, are comprised of the world championships for eight equestrian sports - show jumping, dressage, eventing, driving, reining, vaulting, endurance and para-equestrian. The inaugural games were held in 1990 in Stockholm, Sweden, and have never taken place outside of Europe. The 2010 Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games™ in Kentucky will represent the largest equestrian sporting event ever held in the United States.

How will Frankfort be effected?  With the 700,000+ guests coming to Kentucky the Bluegrass Region, including Frankfort, will receive guests from around the world.   Our capital city will have the great opportunity to showcase our culture and traditions.  The economic impact will be a great bonus.

What can you do to help?  The Frankfort Tourist Commission has formed a WEG Steering Committee, whose members include representatives from the city and county governments, KY Dept of Tourism, Frankfort Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Frankfort Inc., local businesses, etc.  Sub - committees were formed from the steering committee.  We will need volunteers to work on the committees as well as help out on community work days.
